Elevators hate you when you're late

Posted 9/3/2026

Buildings are absolutely messing with us on purpose.

Think about it. That elevator you ride every single day works just fine when you're casually strolling in at 9:02 AM with your coffee in hand. Smooth. Efficient. Almost pleasant.

But the second you're sprinting through the lobby at 8:58 AM because your alarm decided to take a personal day, that same elevator suddenly transforms into the world's slowest vertical prison. It stops on every floor. Someone gets on with a hand truck. Another person holds the door for their friend who's "just around the corner" but is apparently coming from another dimension.

You can feel your heart rate climbing faster than the elevator is moving. The little floor numbers light up one by one like they're being controlled by a committee that needs to vote on each decision. Second floor. Deep breath. Third floor. Check your watch. Fourth floor. Consider taking the stairs but you're already on the eighth floor and that would be admitting defeat.

Here's the thing though. Some conspiracy theorists claim buildings actually program elevators to move slower during rush hour to reduce wear and tear. Others think it's a psychological trick to make you leave earlier. I'm pretty convinced elevators are just caffeine-sensitive machines that mirror your energy levels.

Not enough coffee in your system? Elevator moves like it's trudging through peanut butter. Fully caffeinated? That thing practically teleports between floors.

Today’s coffee notes: Costa Rican

Costa Rican coffee, typically has a great body, often full, and a rich, robust flavor and crisp acidity. Costa Rican coffees are generally believed to have some of the best coffee flavor profiles in south/central America.

When buying Costa Rican coffees for home use, we recommend getting whole bean, fresh roasted coffees direct from coffee roasters. Don’t buy from Amazon, etc. where the coffee might have been sitting for months.

If you’ve been down to Costa Rica and really enjoyed your morning coffee, you’ll know what I mean.
